The 2021 Carolina Pro-Am presented by Salt Life and Infinity Surf to be held on November 12-14, 2021 at Wrightsville Beach, NC will serve as an APP World Tour Qualifying event promoted by the World Paddle Association (WPA). The seventh annual Carolina Pro-Am SUP Surf event brings together the top amateurs and the world’s best sup surfers to North Carolina.
The Salt Life and Infinity Surf Carolina Pro-Am is a three-day Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Surf event, drawing the world’s best Professional and Amateur Paddle Surfers along with our First Comp divisions and the exciting Bully Board tandem body board division. In addition, the Pro division competitors will earn Qualifier Series points toward the APP World Tour ranking, providing a unique and open access point to the APP Tour for 2022.
Tristan Boxford, CEO of the APP World Tour stated, “we are excited to be involved once again with the Carolina Pro-Am and what it represents for the Stand Up Paddle Community as a whole. To have this event as an official Qualifier stop for the APP World Tour in 2022 paves the way for the development of a legitimate Qualifier Series for SUP Surfing, that will emulate what has been put in motion by the APP and WPA for Racing.”
The Carolina Pro-Am was brought to life in 2014 by local businessmen and avid surfers Haywood Newkirk and Jason Colclough has attracted the top professional sup surfers in the world to compete in the Pro Open, Pro Longboard and the Masters 40+ divisions. Pro competitors included Caio Vaz, Kieran & Fisher Grant, Bullet Obra, Martin Letourneur, Colin McPhillips, Mo Freitas, Emmy Merrill and Gorgio and Izzi Gomez.
“Having the APP Tour and our partners involved again helps maintain the high level of status for the Carolina Pro-Am”, states Haywood Newkirk, CPA founder. Newkirk continues, “We are proud to showcase the event and at our home break in Wrightsville Beach, NC.”
With the additional support and recognition provided by the APP and the WPA, the Carolina Pro Am is the SUP surf industries premier events. In addition, CPA offers the “First Comp” division for first time sup surf competitors, Masters Pro division (40+) and the Bully Board tandem body board division for all levels of competitors and family to enjoy.
“The Carolina Pro-Am contest has always been a fun and competitive event with great hospitality from the locals in Wrightsville Beach”, states Byron Kurt, President of the WPA. Kurt continues, “The level of SUP Surfing has always been very good and now with the event being an APP World Tour qualifying event, you will see a much more competitive field in all divisions.”
