WPA-Salt Life Cup final two events, the Battle of the Bay and the Season finale at the Pacific Paddle Games!

DANA POINT, CA — Salt Life Apparel, in association with the World Paddle Association’s season long Salt Life Cup comes down to the last two chances to earn points and to crown the Salt Life Cup champions.  The Salt Life Cup is a season-long accumulation of points earned at all WPA National races (see below schedule) with Garrett Fletcher holding a slim lead over fierce competition close behind with the likes of Danny Ching, Mo Freitas, Connor Baxter and Travis Grant all in striking distance for the Men’s and April Zilg continues to hold the top spot in the Women’s division closely followed by Shae Foudy, Candice Appleby and Annabel Anderson.

Battle of the Bay logo_2016All of these competitors have one more chance to add to their current point totals with only two races remaining, the Battle of the Bay on September 17 & 18th at Crissy Field in San Francisco, CA and then the season finale at the Pacific Paddle Games on September 30th, October 1 & 2nd at Doheny State Beach, CA.  Competitors will earn double points with 2,000 points to 1st place at the Battle of the Bay (combination of the distance and technical races) and then quadruple points with 4,000 points going to 1st place in the Surf technical race at the Pacific Paddle Games for both genders.  The Battle of the Bay will also be the last chance for several competitors like Connor Baxter, Travis Grant, Annabel Anderson and Fiona Wilde to gain the minimum of three WPA National events for the year to qualify for the Salt Life Cup title for 2016 at the Pacific Paddle Games.  The current standings as of 8/22/16 and number of events for each competitor are listed below.

The Salt Life Cup and WPA National races award double points (2,000 to 1st) through the long course or designated course(s) in Men’s SUP 14’ and Women’s SUP 12’6 and quadruple points (4,000 to 1st) at the Naish Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge and the season finale Pacific Paddle Games.  The top three point’s leaders at the end of the season will receive bonus money and crown the 2016 Salt Life Cup Champions.  To qualify for the Salt Life Cup bonus money, competitors must compete in a minimum of three designated Salt Life Cup races (races listed below) during the 2016 season and the season finale in the Surf technical race at the Pacific Paddle Games.  Please note, the Santa Monica Pier and Naish Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge had two races that combined for one qualifying race towards the Salt Life Cup.
