WPA & Pacific Paddle Games launches Masters Elite Division

WPA-logo-regThe World Paddle Association is pleased to announce the addition of SUP the Mag’s Pacific Paddle Games presented by Salt Life to the 2015 WPA National Race Series and the Salt Life Cup. On October 10th & 11th, the Pacific Paddle Games will provide a world-class event at Doheny State Beach located in Dana Point, California. In its inaugural year, SUP the Mag has promised an unforgettable experience for the paddlers, spectators and brand partners. Additionally, the PPG is offering the largest prize purse of $55K ever given out to elite athletes. As a WPA Sanctioned race, paddlers can look forward to rules and regulations that keep the race safe, fair and includes drafting guidelines.

New to the elite races and PPG event is the WPA Elite Masters 40+ age division that will be offered to both men and women elite paddlers. This will be the first time that the Masters paddlers are honored in an elite race. Junior divisions, which were new to the WPA this year, will also be recognized. The PPG will provide both elite and open races to excite and challenge racers at all levels. The elite race will consist of technical surf course heats on Saturday and a final on Sunday afternoon. There will also be a distance race on Sunday morning for both Elite and Open paddlers. Elite paddlers will need to compete in both the technical surf race and the distance race to qualify for the combined prize purse and the PPG Elite Champion.

With the schedule of events that the PPG has prepared, there will be action and fun for the whole family to enjoy,” stated Byron Kurt, President of the World Paddle Association. “Sanctioning the Pacific Paddle Games with the World Paddle Association will help ensure the sustainable growth in our sport while acknowledging athletic talent in various divisions,” states Kurt.

The Pacific Paddle Games will also offer double points as a WPA National Race in the Salt Life Cup for 2015. 2000 points will be awarded in both the technical and the distance races leaving athletes with the potential to walk away from the PPG with 4000 points. The Salt Life Cup will conclude the following weekend, October 17th & 18th, with the WPA Championships at the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco, CA. The Battle of the Bay will also be a double points race with 4000 possible points up for grabs to determine the 2015 Salt Life Cup Champions.

WPA partner PaddleGuru will manage the registration and timing for the Pacific Paddle Games along with managing the points throughout the year with the Salt Life Cup and the WPA National Race Series.
