Salt Life President Jeff Stillwell states, “Salt Life applauds the growth of this great sport and is enjoying a banner year. A lot of our growth comes from great partnerships such this one. The WPA is a top-notch organization promoting a very popular sport for the novice and the exceptional. We look forward to awarding the 2016 Salt Life champion and watching the fiercely competitive standings leading up to the championships later this year. Last year, we had several Salt Life team members vying for the gold and hope to see them at the top again this year.”
The WPA National races will award double points through the long course or designated course(s) in Men’s SUP 14’ and Women’s SUP 12’6. The top point’s leader at the end of the season will receive bonus money and be crowned 2016 Salt Life Cup Champions. To qualify for the Salt Life Cup bonus money, competitors must compete in a minimum of four designated Salt Life Cup races during the 2016 season and the WPA Championships (TBA).
“Salt Life is proud to be a partner with the World Paddle Association and excited to present the Salt Life Cup for 2016 ,” stated Larry Laska, director of marketing. Laska continues, “Our partnership with the WPA is very important since we work together to build the sport of paddling that fits our customer and lifestyle seeking to live the Salt Life.” In addition, Salt Life will also offer special awards at select events throughout the year to the top placing Open race competitors in multiple categories.
WPA partner PaddleGuru who manages the race solution for all of the WPA sanctioned events will be managing the points throughout the year with the Salt Life Cup and the WPA National Race Series. All competitors will need to be a current WPA member by July 1, 2016 to have points earned retroactive from races prior to July 1, 2016. Anyone that has not joined or renewed their membership by July 1, 2016 will not receive points earned prior to July 1, 2016 (see below points breakdown by place)
