Region 6 Champs: Chucktown Showdown

Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Chucktown Showdown in beautiful Charleston, SC. One of Region 6’s “destination races,” the Chucktown Showdown offers both long and short courses and cash prizes in both 14′ and 12’6″ for the long course men and women. The event will benefit the Special Olympics of South Carolina.

This is the WPA Region 6 Championship.

This is also Race #8 in the Southern Stoke Race Series.

The races start and end at Brittlebank Park on the west side of the Charleston Peninsula along the banks of the Ashley River.  Both the Battery and Harbor courses take you south along the shores of old “Charles Towne” and the famous Battery where antebellum homes lead to artillery positions placed there to protect the “Holy City”.  The Battery course turns around here for a fast straight away back to Brittlebank while the Harbor Course continues straight into the Charleston harbor.  As you head for Ft Sumter, where the Civil War began, you’ll will turn left around a modern-day light tower headed towards Shute’s Folly island, home of Castle Pinckney, which was used to hold Union POWs during the Civil War.  After passing Shute’s Folly Island, you will again turn left again, heading back to the Battery and back up the Ashley River to Brittlebank Park.
