Carolina Cup Region 6 National Points Race 4/27/13

The Wrightsville Beach Paddle Club organized the 2013 Carolina Cup to be a 5-day destination event. The Carolina Cup is a national World Paddle Association race and one of the largest Standup Paddle events on the East Coast. The event lasts from Thursday, April 25 to Monday, April 29th and includes a 3-day expo where people can try just about every kind of standup paddle board and paddle. There are 4 races: a kid’s race (Turtle Race), the 3.7-mile Harbor Island Race (recreational/fun), the 6.5-mile Money Island (open race) and the 13.2-mile Graveyard Race (elite). There are all divisions including traditional (prone) paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and OCs. If you can paddle it, we’ll find a division for you. This event is also a great place to learn to SUP for the first time or progress from a recreational level to more competitive racing in one of 7 instructional clinics and 4 certification programs from professional paddlers such as Jimmy Terrell, Larry Cain, Jamie Mitchell, Dan Gavere, Candice Appleby, Anthony Vela and Danny Ching. There are Yoga and PaddleFit certifications (which includes WPA certification credits). We’re also planning a number of really fun activities that will make this a true stand up paddle destination event. It’ll be one that you can plan a 5-day weekend and bring the family. This event helps raise money for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue Hospital, Athletes for Cancer and Surfers Healing.  This is one of the US’s most enjoyable SUP destinations. We look forward to racing, learning, playing and having some fun paddling in North Carolina with you.
