About WPA

Our Mission

The mission of the WPA is to provide a comprehensive voice, fair and equal access and organizational structure to the sport of Stand Up Paddling (SUP) and its participants in a manner that benefits the collective paddling community for the best growth of the sport.

The World Paddle Association (WPA) crowned the first-ever standup paddle World Champions and regional champions in 2011.

Our Story

The World Paddle Association (WPA) was launched in the spring of 2010 by two paddling enthusiasts who just wanted to see the sport grow in the proper direction.  With the rapid growth of Stand Up Paddling and the need of direction and focus with this young sport we felt there was a need to assist in the rules and guidelines for the competitive SUP events in the United States.

The ultimate goal of the WPA is to provide a global standard for competitive Stand Up Paddle events leading to better experiences for all parties involved.  The WPA is all paddlers that give input and want to help in the future growth of all Stand Up Paddle sports.  We look forward to the continued input from those that have the passion to provide a better experience.

The WPA currently have a Board of Directors and Advisory Boards to assist in keeping the best interest of the sport in mind.  We invite you to join the WPA now and become a part of solution.

Keep the vibe!
