The Region 6 championship has been set for Sept 28th hosted by the lake Murray SUP Classic

The Lake Murray SUP Classic is this year’s Region 6 Championship Race, 09/28/13. This WPA-sanctioned event is also a “double qualifying point’s race”, presented by Kialoa Paddles.

 

 

 

Expected to sell out, race Registration will close Thursday, September 26 at 11:59pm. Registration will be available on Friday at packet pickup for an additional $20 fee paid by cash or check only. Race shirts/swag bags will not be guaranteed for a Friday registration. There will be NO day-of-race registration. 

 

 

The 2013 Lake Murray SUP Classic will offer great spectator viewing as the public park at the Lake Murray Dam will be open for the day of this event. The park features a sandy beach area, picnic shelters, restrooms and plenty of parking. Racers and spectators will also have the opportunity to visit sponsors tents, try out SUP boards and view the race course from the park and the dams’ walking/running path.

 

 

Proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics of SC and Palmetto Health Childrens Hospital’s “Camp Kemo”, a summer camp for children with cancer, ages 5-18 and their siblings.

 

 

Course Description -Both 5k and 10k racers will see a challenging course that will test new and experienced paddlers. Both 5k and 10k races will feature a water start and a beach finish. Depending on weather conditions, the course may move from a triangular course to an out and back course which will offer both upwind and downwind.

 

Following the races, 5k and 10k racers will enjoy food from Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina. Tickets for food for family and friends will be available at the event.

 

 

A Kid’s race will follow the completion of the 5k and 10k races and will be a shoreline race. Kid’s race participants will sign up at the event and must include a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

 

 

Race details – 5k race will be a “Race What You Bring” event. However, classes recognized will be as follows:

 

5k – 12’ 2” surfboard class, 12’ 6”

 

10k – 12’ 6”, 14’ and Unlimited

 

 

Trophies awarded to top 3 –

 

5k race

 

12’ 2” – ages18-49 Male & Female,

 

12’ 6” – ages18-49 Male & Female, 50+ M&F combined divisions

 

Under age 17 combined divisions

 

 

10k Race

 

12’ 6” – ages 18-49 Male & Female, 50+ M&F

 

14’ – ages 18-49 Male & Female, 50+ M&F

 

Unlimited – ages 18-49 combined, 50+

 

Categories offered are dependent on the number of entrants and conditions.
