2016 Salt Life Cup Standings heading into the Season finale at PPG!

DANA POINT, CA — Salt Life Apparel, in association with the World Paddle Association’s season long Salt Life Cup comes down to the last race of the year to crown the Salt Life Cup champions.  The Salt Life Cup is a season-long accumulation of points earned at all WPA National races with Garrett Fletcher holding a 755 point lead over Mo Freitas and a 1,595 point lead over 3rd place Danny Ching in the Men’s standings while April Zilg holds on to a very slim 80 point lead over the top paddler in the world Annabel Anderson with Shae Foudy and Candice Appleby within striking distance depending on the outcome at the Pacific Paddle Games.

It all comes down to the season finale at the Pacific Paddle Games on September 30th, October 1 & 2nd at Doheny State Beach, CA for the 2016 Salt Life Cup.  Competitors will earn quadruple points with 4,000 points going to 1st place in the Surf technical race at the Pacific Paddle Games for both genders.  There were many top competitors like Connor Baxter, Travis Grant and Fiona Wilde who did not meet the minimum of three WPA National events for the year to qualify for the Salt Life Cup title for 2016 prior to the Pacific Paddle Games.  The current standings as of 9/21/16 and number of events for each competitor are listed below.

The Salt Life Salt Life Pirate logoCup and WPA National races award double points (2,000 to 1st) through the long course or designated course(s) in Men’s SUP 14’ and Women’s SUP 12’6 and quadruple points (4,000 to 1st) at the Naish Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge and the season finale Pacific Paddle Games.  The top three point’s leaders at the end of the season will receive bonus money and crown the 2016 Salt Life Cup Champions.  To qualify for the Salt Life Cup bonus money, competitors must compete in a minimum of three designated Salt Life Cup races (races listed below) during the 2016 season and the season finale in the Surf technical race at the Pacific Paddle Games (Please note, the Santa Monica Pier and Naish Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge had two races that combined for one qualifying race towards the Salt Life Cup).
