2015 Salt Life Cup Champions Crowned at the Battle of the Bay WPA Championships

BOTB5-posterThe World Paddle Association crowned the 2015 Salt Life Cup Champions this past weekend at the Battle of the Bay WPA Championships in San Francisco, CA.  Mo Freitas and April Zilg took home the top points honors with the year long Salt Life Cup which earned a $5,000.00 bonus to Mo and $3,500.00 bonus to April.

In total, Mo took home to Hawaii a total cash prize of $8,000.00 ($3,000 first place and $5,000 Salt Life Cup bonus) and April took back to North Carolina a total cash prize of $5,500.00 ($2,000 second place and $3,500 Salt Life Cup bonus).  The Battle of the Bay Elite Champions, Mo Freitas and Bailey Rosen took top honors in a grueling two day combined 8.5 mile distance race and 5 mile Technical race (that was shortened to 3 miles due to 20-22mph winds).

Mo, fresh off his convincing victory at the Pacific Paddle Games technical surf race and 4th overall placing was in young great form in his victory over Frenchman Martin Letourneur and Tucker Ingalls in 3rd place which took the competitors around Alcatraz and the South tower of the Golden Gate Bridge along the shores of Crissy Field.  Bailey Rosen, showed her promising form with two victories in the Women’s Elite division races over second place April Zilg and 13 year old Lexi Alston in 3rd place.  Bailey took home $3,000.00 for her first place finish.

All paddling divisions with OC1, OC2, Surfski, SUP, Juniors and kids races were conducted on San Francisco Bay at the Battle of the Bay WPA Championships that included conditions of from mild to current and heavy winds on Sunday.  Paddlers of all abilities competed at the Battle of the Bay along with the pride of our sport, the kids and Juniors.  This years host for the event was Steve Pugh, owner of BlueRush Sports in Sausalito secured a great location along with a pre-registration party and great goodie bags for all competitors.
